SN500 Base Oil Supply & Sourcing Guide

SN500 is used where a heavier neutral base oil is needed, but the grade name does not guarantee identical performance across refineries. Viscosity, viscosity index, flash point, pour point, colour, sulphur and evaporation behaviour should be matched to the formulation and destination standard.

Specification checklist for the RFQ

  • Viscosity at 40°C and 100°C
  • Viscosity index and density
  • Flash point, pour point and colour
  • Sulphur, Noack or carbon residue when applicable

Applications and end-use context

  • Engine and gear-oil blending
  • Heavy industrial lubricants
  • Grease and process oils
  • Blending with lighter neutrals or bright stock

Delivery structure and logistics

Higher viscosity can affect pumping and loading temperature, especially in cold conditions. Bulk, flexitank, IBC and drum options should be compared for contamination risk, heating, payload, storage and inland delivery rather than packaging price alone.

Prices shown on the site are public market references only. An executable indication depends on specification, origin, destination, Incoterm, freight, insurance and payment structure.

Documents and commercial inputs

  • Accepted specification and formulation target
  • Recent batch COA and typical data sheet
  • Packing, heating and net-payload details
  • Inspection and contamination-control plan

How the inquiry is reviewed

01

Define product, grade, quantity, destination and timing.

02

Review specification, documents, logistics assumptions and compliance points.

03

Where appropriate, summarise possible sourcing or freight routes for the next commercial discussion.

Frequently asked questions

Is every SN500 suitable for the same engine oil?

No. Formulation performance depends on the full property set and additive package, not the grade name alone.

Does SN500 always need heating for loading?

Not always. Ambient temperature, viscosity, pump and line design determine whether controlled heating is required.
