What Is Feedstock in Petrochemical Trading?
A practical guide to feedstock meaning, product categories and RFQ preparation for petroleum, petrochemical and industrial commodity inquiries.
Feedstock meaning in energy markets
In petroleum and petrochemical markets, feedstock generally means a raw material or intermediate stream used for further processing, blending or industrial production. Examples include naphtha, LPG, condensate-style streams, refinery cuts, base oils, waxes and selected petrochemical inputs.
For buyers and traders, the word feedstock is broad. A useful RFQ must therefore define the exact product, grade, specification, quantity, origin preference, destination, delivery terms, payment expectations and required documents.

How to prepare a feedstock RFQ
1. Define the product
Use exact grade, specification and acceptable alternatives. Avoid vague terms like “good quality” or “standard grade.”
2. Define delivery terms
Clarify FOB, CFR, CIF, destination port, shipment window, packaging or vessel requirements and inspection expectations.
3. Define commercial readiness
State quantity, payment method, buyer profile, required documents and realistic timing for decision-making.
